Enjoy some of the best experiences that Botswana has to offer on this trip. After spending a night at Oddballs Camp you will head out with your guide on the Oddballs Mokoro Trail, an authentic camping experience in the heart of the Okavango Delta. You will return to Oddballs Camp after two nights on the trail and spend your last night there. The next day you will leave for Camp Savuti, which is situated in one of Africa's premier predator viewing areas. From here you can enjoy game drives in the morning and afternoon in an open safari vehicle along the fringes of the Savuti channel and marsh. Spend the rest of your time relaxing in the comfortable guest areas enjoying the view of the Savuti Channel.
Upon arrival in Maun you will be met by Delta Air who will assist you to the light aircraft and onwards to Oddballs Camp. The camp is situated on the edge of Chiefs Island, deep in the heart of the Okavango. It is only accessible by light aircraft and upon your arrival you will be met by your guide, who will remain with you for the duration of your stay. You will spend the first night of your stay in the camp before departing for two nights on the mokoro trail. Your last night will also be spent in camp.
On the second day of your stay you will set out into the Okavango in a dug-out canoe with your camping equipment and guide. The peace and tranquillity, the regular and soporific thrust of your guides long “ngashi”, by which you are propelled, the gentle rustle of water and lily-pads, the crystal clear water beneath you, the warm sun overhead – all these will frame the many sensations that will flood through as you make your gentle progress. As you thread your way through floodplains fringed with islands, ancient trees will mark your passage, as will tiny reed-frogs, imperious fish eagles, and a host of other living creatures, large and small. Bee-eaters hawk from the reed-beds, red lechwe will pause in their grazing to observe, hippo will grunt in the lagoons, and the crocodiles you don’t see will see you. As the day passes your guide will select an island to camp on. Beaching the dug-out he will assist with the erection of your tent, the gathering of firewood, the collection of water, and the general establishment of your campsite in a spot conducive to your safety and comfort. As the afternoon mellows he will take you for a walk over the island, viewing birds, game, and the spectacular scenery for which the Okavango is renowned. On your return in the evening the fire will be set and, with your guide’s assistance, you will prepare your evening meal over the open coals, under a sky spangled with stars.
For your final night you will return to Oddballs Camp. The camp offers a bar and lounge area, perfect for meeting up and swapping stories around the fire. There is also a raised viewing deck that overlooks the sweep of the Delta, the perfect vantage point for watching the sunset or whatever animals may be visiting.
After breakfast you will depart via light aircraft to Camp Savuti. The camp is a twenty-minute game drive from the airstrip through Chobe National Park. The Savuti Marsh, which is fed by the Savuti Channel has over the years developed a reputation as one of the world’s premier predator viewing areas and boasting one of the highest concentration of wildlife on the African continent. There have been a number of documentary films shot in Savuti that has helped cement this reputation. Camp Savuti is an intimate camp that can accommodate a maximum of 10 guests in comfort and style in 5 Meru tents. The tents sit on platforms and are positioned to ensure privacy and a modest level of exclusivity throughout the camp. The tents are large and spacious, each with an en-suite bathroom and deck with views over the Savuti Channel.
Camp Savuti offers morning and afternoon game drives through the park and along the fringes of the channel and marsh. The open safari vehicles are ideal for game watching and photography and your guide will delight in showing you the beauty and diversity of Savuti’s natural wonders. While in camp you can enjoy comfortable guest areas that include an intimate lounge, bar and dining area all of which have views of the Savuti Chanel.
Enjoy an early morning safari after which breakfast will be served. Depart Camp Savuti by light aircraft to Maun for your onward journey.
